Mission of Our Class - Upper Primary
- Students are motivated to want to learn and do their personal best in all they do.
- Students will learn in an environment that is free from ridicule and put-downs.
- Students will learn to trust themselves and their classmates and will be truthful at all times.
Virginia is the Lead Teacher for the upper primary level grade students. She strives at this level to fully embrace the conviction that every learner has distinct educational needs. She inspires her students to work at an advanced level to expand their abilities and realize their full academic potential.
Virginia is specially trained to target specific brain functions (such as attention controls, higher thinking abilities, or problem solving skills). Peer pressure is reduced and her students are taught about social cognition.
She holds all her students accountable for achieving a highly productive output, although not every student is expected to produce the same products.
Virginia is flexible in her curricular requirements. Students who benefit from accommodations are expected to compensate by performing additional work in the area of their strength or affinity.
Virginia hails from Oak Ridge and has a BS degree in Elementary Education from Tennessee Tech. She is well traveled having been to Iceland, Belgium, Monaco and Canada. She has not always been a teacher, but has gathered many life experiences along the way as a clown in the circus, a videographer, a wardrobe designer, an actress, a writer, and a video editor.
She is a member of the Upper Cumberland Writing Project where she help trains other teachers how to incorporate writing into their curriculum. She has attended NASAs rocketry workshop, many other professional development workshops, and has received training from the Center for Effective Learning.
Virginia and her husband, Matt, who is a professional writer, live in Cookeville.
