Scott Baas, B.S.E.E. – High School

Mission of Our Class - High School
  • Critically important to do sensitive observation of every student as a unique individual to discover their uniqueness.
  • Students need to be exposed to the widest range of forms of knowledge and types of skills to be truly successful.
  • Students should be evaluated in such a way that the greatest weight is given to their chosen area(s) of specialization or affinity.

Scott is one of the Lead Instructors of the high school grade students. It is his job to help adolescents overcome their weaknesses and detect and cultivate their strengths. In the adult world, what counts most is the strength of an individual’s strengths. Every kid has strengths! They simply await discovery.

Our knowledge of neurodevelopmental variation has led us to the firm conclusion that we cannot impose the identical requirements for learning on all students. While human minds share a multitude of common goals, it is also the case that different minds are destined to serve different purposes.

We must be able to detect and nuture those special purposes as they emerge. Unique expertise can also bolster academic motivation and self-esteem. It may not have been the purposes we might have selected, but they are authentic and they cry out for recognition. To use a mind for purposes for which it was not “wired” is to misuse it. To help a mind fulfill its authentic purpose is to celebrate it.

We offer a wide ranging curriculum on multiple levels that promotes the adult world where specialized talents are celebrated. We leave behind the child world where uniformity of expectation for performance prevails.

This kind of educational process helps each student become more tolerant of the individual differences between them and empowers them to develop as authentic individuals rather than always feeling compelled to confirm to the imposed uniform standards and values of their peers.

A graduate of Oakland University, Scott has a B.S. degree in Biology and a Masters degree in Education from Tennessee Tech.

He previously worked in the Human Gros Anatomy Lab at Oakland University and taught in Putnam County Schools. He also designed the Tennessee Tech College of Education Advising Center web page.
